Nas de barraca, Sant Boi és una tonada, variante catalana d’un antic riff conegut com a “Afaitat i tallada…dos bits” (Afaitat y tallada…cuarto de dólar).[1] La lletra popular amb la qual és coneguda és molt posterior al ritme.[2]
Una aparición primigenia documentada del riff es la marxa instrumental de 1899 de Charles Hale, “At a Darktown Cakewalk”.[2][8] En la novela de 1933 Hizzoner the Mayor, de Joel Sayre, ya aparece la letra “Shave and a haircut… two bits” asociada con la tonada. [9] El primer escrito de la versión catalana se encuentra en el Diario de Guerra (1938-1939) de Pere Tarrés y Claret.[10] Una de las escenas famosas más recientes se encuentra en la película ¿Qui ha enredado en Roger Rabbit? (1988) en la que Roger Rabbit desvela su amagatall al juez Doom al no poder resistirse a responder “…dos bits”.[11]
